Art In The Park

South Portland, Maine

South Portland’s 38th Annual

Saturday, August 12, 2017

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Every year Art in the Park gives a $1000.00 scholarship to a student graduating from South Portland High School who is going on to study art in college. Arthur Hahn, for whom the scholarship is named, was one of the founders of Art in the Park and a well-known promoter of the arts in the Greater Portland area.

2016 scholarship

Pictured above is Mayele Alogon receiving the 2016 Arthur Hahn Scholarhsip from Dominic Babine, General Sales Manager for Troiano Waste Services Inc., this year's scholarship sponsor.

Mayele has been making art since she was in kindergarten. Her inspiration is music and the images are then transferred onto canvas. She enjoys making art inspired by personal philosophies. The idea of having someone look at something she's made and then having a slightly different perspective on life is a goal of hers. Although Mayele has worked in several types of of paint, watercolor is what she feels the most comfortable using.

Other activities Mayele enjoys include reading, cooking and just "lazing" around. Mayele will be attending Bates College in the fall majoring in art and social studies.
